The trip in a nutshell

Welcome to Costa Rica, it’s time to enjoy some pura vida and wind down and gett lost in this corner of paradise! Get ready to hike trails that lead to waterfalls in the jungle, explore mangrove forests by kayak, encounter the most diverse wildlife and learn to recognise its sounds. On our tour of Costa Rica, you will finally get back to what life should be, so when it’s eventually time to say goodbye to this incredible country, you will take a little bit of their lifestyle home with you.

Our trip starts in San José but don’t worry, we leave the city right away: on day 2 we are already on the road to the sea in Puerto Viejo. Here we enjoy the Caribbean, exploring the surroundings by bicycle and taking our first swim of the trip! Then it’s all nature: we go into Tortuguero National Park, where we trek and kayak among the mangroves, and, if the season is right, we’ll see turtles hatch! Can we then miss a fair dose of adrenaline? Here we go them with some rafting on the Rio Sarapiquì and in Monteverde we’ll explore the rainforest by zipline – but first we’ll also make a stop in Arenal Volcano National Park, where the landscape is dominated by the cone of the majestic volcano. Finally, we reach Uvita, on the Pacific coast, where days of relaxation, yoga on the beach, long sunset walks and lots of snorkelling await! We end our trip with one last national park, Manuel Antonio National Park, where we will have our last full immersion in nature before returning to civilization in San José, where it all began. After this trip, ‘Pura Vida’ will be our new motto, and we will return home with new awareness of the natural world.

Exploring the imperial cities
We kick off our day early in order to make the most of our adventure. Our first destination is Kamakura, an ancient imperial city and one of the first capital cities of Japan. We'll explore a variety of temples and palaces, each one offering a glimpse into Kamakura's rich history. One of the highlights of our visit will be the Great Buddha, a magnificent statue that has stood the test of time, surviving numerous typhoons and even a tsunami that ravaged the temple surrounding it. It's also one of the very few Buddha statues that can be visited from the inside. Shall we go in?
Wandering around the capital
We head back to Tokyo by train and arrive refreshed and ready to explore more of the city's culture and history. We visit Ueno Park, one of the most significant parks in the city, home to many temples and shrines. The most notable is the Gojo Tenjinsha Shinto shrine, which can be reached by walking through a pathway lined with traditional red torii gates. Food is a fundamental part of any country's culture, so tonight's dinner will be no exception. We immerse ourselves in the vibrant streets of Ameyoko Market, near Ueno Park. Let's get our taste buds ready!

FAQs – Frequently Asked Questions

Japan is in the GMT+9 time zone and does not observe daylight saving time, so no seasonal clock changes are required.

The official currency of Japan is the Japanese Yen (JPY). Japan is not fully digital yet, and many places and services accept only cash.

Credit cards are accepted in many urban and tourist-friendly areas in Japan, but cash is still king, especially in traditional or rural settings. You can exchange Pounds for Yen in Japan (better rates in cities than airports) or withdraw from ATMs—just check fees with your bank.
